Nanostructured Polymers Division

The Nanostructured Polymers Division (PolNano) arises from the reorganization of the research groups of the former Polymers Division that share objectives, techniques and analysis methods related to Nanostructured Functional Polymers. The most relevant spect of these materials is the presence of a nanostructure (1-100 nm) whose characteristics determine their functional properties. The nanostructure can be generated by structuring the matrix itself or by adding nanoparticles of different composition. Structuration can occur at different hierarchical levels (nanoscopic, mesoscopic, microscopic) to give the material the desired functionality. The type of functionality sought is reflected in properties of different kind: optical, electrical, magnetic, biological, structural, etc., derived from the nanostructure produced. These properties give the developed materials potential applications in the area of electronics, alternative energy, health and environmental technologies.
